AFIF Role with Customs & Border Protection
AFIF actively works with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) on a variety of matters locally and nationally.
AFIF Members are the "Importer of Record" for their flower shipments. They are subject to a variety of CBP requirements, including working with their grower partners to ensure flowers are free of contraband by ensuring shipments are monitored during the entire shipment process. AFIF Member Importers of Record must also comply with a variety of CBP documentation issues, including entry of goods processes, informed compliance and record keeping requirements, proper classification and valuation for duty assessment, ensuring country of origin marking requirements are clear and accurate, ect. Shipments are also periodically subject to random "intensive examinations" by CBP officers, when boxes of flowers are matched with documentation to ensure all compliance requirements are being met.
