South Florida Industry Statistics
The Association of Floral Importers of Florida (AFIF) has represented the interests of South Florida fresh cut flower importers since its inception in 1982. AFIF"s mission is to 1) Advocate Members' interest on national public policy issues and international trade matters to ensure the free flow of imported floral products into the U.S.; 2) Promote AFIF Members as the most efficient source for imported fresh cut flowers; 3) Serve as a mechanism for sharing ideas and programs to develop better skills among Members. AFIF represents Members on issues including lobbying/legislative and transportation matters and deals with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Customs and Boarder Protection (CBP), and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). AFIF addresses industry issues and challenges and develops appropriate strategies to them.
AFIF Members account for the majority of the sales volume of the Miami flower importers.
Fresh-cut flowers are the number one perishable import through Miami International Airport.
On a daily basis, approximately 40,000 boxes of flowers arrive at Miami International Airport.
